Videos have been shared on social media of a Christian Rugby Union player's first steps after he suffered a serious neck injury that could have left him paralysed.

Worcester lock Michael Fatialofa severely injured his spine during a match against the Saracens in January.

The forward was diagnosed with a spinal contusion, which causes compression on the spine.

Following surgery to relieve the pressure on his spinal cord, Fatialofa spent a fortnight in intensive care.

In a social media post, his wife Tatiana attributed his swift recovery to the power of God.

"You're witnessing a miracle that even medical professionals can't explain," she wrote with a video of him walking on Instagram.

"He was literally paralysed from the neck down just 10 weeks ago and currently spinal cord injuries do not have a clinical cure, but my amazing husband is proof that God is never limited to human wisdom. So so so thankful."

The pair attend Freedom Church, an evangelical church in Worcester.

Tatiana has been documenting her husband's recovery process online, giving thanks to God for every answer to prayer.

One post reads: "What prayer does […] capturing some of the miracles we've seen in motion.

Another showing the first time Fatialofa stood reads: "God proved himself faithful once again! SO! IN! AWE! We will cherish this miracle and hope it builds your belief too."

One week ago, in the middle of the night, my hubby randomly said “babe, should I just try and stand up?” Reluctant as I was to push more boundaries when the borders of my faith have already been so stretched (to this day even thinking about the moment he got hurt is still too horrible a thought for me to process ??) I replied scared “okay babe” ? ...then God went right ahead and proved Himself faithful once again! After I seated him upright, @michaelfats eventually stood & took his first wobbly step closer to recovery ???? SO! IN! AWE! This was not supposed to be possible yet. We will cherish this miracle in time forever & only hope it builds your belief too ? #JehovahRapha

Fellow rugby player and heavyweight boxer Loni Uhila also shared his gratitude to God for Fatialofa's recovery.

"Few weeks ago I asked for your prayers for my brother @michaelfats and to see him walking today brings tears to my eyes. #godsplan," he wrote.

Worcester Warriors had planned to use it's home game against Harlequins in April as a fundraiser for the New Zealand-born player, however due to the current suspension of the Premiership this game will no longer go ahead.

An online fundraising page has been launched to support the rugby star and his family. To date it has raised over £37,500.
