Christian production company set to give Thai cave rescue Hollywood treatment

by Eno Adeogun

US studio Pure Flix - the producers behind Christian films such as God's Not Dead - revealed its producers were at the site of the Tham Luang cave in northern Chiang Rai province interviewing rescue workers during the 18-day ordeal.

In a video posted on Twitter, Pure Flix's co-founder Michael Scott - who lives in Thailand, revealed his wife had grown up with Saman Gunan, the former Thai Navy Seal member who died trying to help rescue the football team.

Speaking from the rescue site, Scott said in the video: "To see all that heroic bravery in the cave, and to get all the divers out, it's just such a touching event and so personal to me."

The twelve boys and their football coach were trapped deep within the labyrinth and riveted the attention of people around the world.

There is however uncertainty what production company will remake the story as according to Los Angeles-based Ivanhoe Pictures, they have been officially picked by the Thai government and navy to develop the film.

Meanwhile, the elite team of divers who rescued the team have been praising the youngsters for their bravery.

Seven divers in the rescue team were from the UK, including Rick Stanton and John Volanthen, who were the first to reach the group, but other nationalities were involved too.

Others in TV and film are already looking to capitalise on the dramatic rescue.

Discovery has scheduled a one-hour documentary special to debut on Friday but Pure Flix hopes it can beat any fiction-film rush.

"I don't think this is a religious film...I think this is an inspirational film," Scott said.
