Christian online streaming service increases subscribers by 150 per cent in last 6 months

by Cara Bentley

A streaming service similar to Netflix, but with only Christian content, has had its subscriber numbers massively increase as it becomes available in more countries and invests in  marketing to a bigger audience.

The New Faith Network, which has films such as God's Not Dead and I Can Only Imagine, has seen a 150 per cent rise in people signing up for a monthly subscription in the past six months and claims it's had an 110 per cent growth each year since it launched in 2017.

Founder Henk Bout, said "there is a growing demand by the Christian community for this type of content. We listen and respond to their needs by offering more titles, being more innovative and continually improving our service."

Bout started the network because he wanted a modern way for people to hear about the gospel, having grown up in a nominal and a traditional Christian home where he was baffled by the rules but captivated by the stories of Jesus.

He also wanted a service that was free from swearing, unnecessary violence and sexual content, so parents could happily leave their children alone.

Bout told Premier: "Not all the content on Netflix and Amazon or Disney is appropriate content for Christian families, especially not for children. So why is there no Christian Netflix?"

The site aims to be family friendly with all its content having "Christian values", such as kids' programmes about influential Christians and a Bible animation called 'Superbook.'

Having started the streaming service in the Netherlands, it has only been accessible in the UK and Ireland for the last eight months. However, a big effort has been put into promoting it here, with 7,000 subscribers signing up in one month since increased advertising.
