A Wisconsin snow park is facing a federal lawsuit after allegedly dismissing a Christian employee for sharing Bible verses on social media.
The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed the complaint this week against Crystal Ridge Ski Area, LLC - formerly known as The Rock Snowpark - in Franklin, Wisconsin. According to the EEOC, the park discriminated against the employee, who worked there from 2 January 2022 to 12 June 2023, on the basis of his religious expression.
Court documents state that the employee “frequently posted religious messages,” including Bible verses, on their personal social media account throughout their employment.
On 9 June 2023, the park’s Operations Manager reportedly met with the employee to express concern that the posts “were discriminatory to gay people”. The lawsuit says the employee asked if they could still post Bible verses, to which the manager agreed.
However, three days later, the employee alleges they made another post - after which their employent was immediately terminated.
The EEOC argues that this amounted to religious discrimination, in violation of employment law.
Crystal Ridge Ski Area told Fox News it had not yet been served the legal complaint - but denied the allegations.
"We want to make clear that we, as an employer and member of the community, treat all of our employees and customers equally and with respect, regardless of who they are and what they believe," the park said.
"We also expect all of our employees to similarly respect each other and the customers that we are here to serve."
