Christian convert's burial delayed in bid to force husband to return to Islam

by Eno Adeogun

The elderly woman died last week and her Christian husband and children invited people from their church to attend a funeral ceremony for her.

However, according to World Watch Monitor, the woman's Muslim relatives also invited local Muslims who demanded the conversion of her husband Mihrab - whose name has changed for security reasons.

Mihrab and his family were branded "betrayers of Islam" but thanks to the intervention of the pastor from the family's church, the woman was finally buried after a local official ruled the Muslim family had no right to prevent the funeral from occurring.

Christians in the Central Asian country make up just 1 per cent of the population.

The country is 22nd on the Open Doors World Watch List of the 50 countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.
