The call for prayer comes as the second major category five storm to hit the Caribbean this month - Hurricane Maria - has battered the island of Dominica and is likely to hit Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands in the next day or so.
Destructive waves, flash floods and mudslides are expected there and residents have been told to quickly complete their plans for protection.
Charlotte Hull from the international aid charity Scee-aff told Premier what situation those who help are walking into.
She said: "We would expect flooding, damaged crops, livestock maybe lost, there may be injuries or even death."
She highlighted the importance of prayer during these challenging times.
She said: "In the early stages of an emergency people are panicked and maybe they've lost loved ones, they can't find them, they're confused about what's happening.
"Some of the prayers that people could be praying right now are for people to have a sense of God's peace, to know that they're not alone, to know that there are people outside of the situation who know what's happening and that support and help is coming and is on its way."
Hurricane Maria is heading for the island of Puerto Rico with potential winds of over 155 miles an hour.
As the storm hits many of same places that have been battered by hurricane Irma, Hull said the repetitive damage is worse than weather in previous years.
Weather forecasters say Hurricane Maria poses a potentially catastrophic threat to the Caribbean islands in its path.
Dominica has been the worst hit so far - with the Prime Minister there declaring there's been 'mind-boggling' devastation.
The British Virgin Islands - which were devastated by Irma two weeks ago - will be hit later on Tuesday.
Hull said now is the time to pray.
She added: "There are many practical things that people can pray – that people get access to the clean water that they need and that they get help in the early stages.
"Also that peace also remains among people because often you hear about looting and people panicking and not helping as a community...pray that people pull together as a community until help from outside can come."
