Three million families were displaced and thousands of people were killed when the storm hit.
It's thought to have been the world's strongest ever cyclone and hundreds of people are still living in makeshift accommodation.
Churches across the country were used to distribute aid and although charities say the initial crisis is over many people are still suffering.
Bekah Legg from Christian children's charity Compassion told Premier the recovery was going to take years.
"It was on the same scale as the earthquake in Haiti or the tsunami, so that gives you an idea of the scale," she said, "we're still working there, other aid agencies are still working there."
Compassion says of the children it was caring for in the aftermath the majority have returned to normal life.
But Ms Legg added that wasn't the same for everyone: "As you look across the Philippines and even within the communities that we work in there is still an awful lot of people struggling."
