Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio lit up as doctor

The famous statue of Christ in Brazil became the canvas for a public display on Sunday, including making him appear dressed as a doctor. 

The landmark was lit up to honour healthcare staff who are working with coronavirus patients.


It started by showing Jesus dressed in a white lab coat, with blue shirt and stethoscope which faded away to show video footage of healthcare workers with the hashtag #fiqueemcasa - stay home. 


A Catholic mass was held at the foot of the statue by Dom Orani Tempesta, Archbishop of Rio. 

The light display also had the flags of countries where coronavirus has hit projected onto it and read "hope" in each language underneath.
