Chinese pastor "grateful" to go to prison is released

by Hannah Tooley

Pastor Huang Yizi was detained accused of stealing, spying on, buying or illegally providing state secrets for institutions and people outside the country, according to China Aid.

It has said that during his detention in an unlisted prison, the pastor was not allowed to meet with lawyers or speak with his family.

The 40-year-old was originally arrested in August 2014.

At the time he said that he was "grateful that God had given him the chance" to go to prison.

The pastor has campaigned against the Chinese government's demolishing of churches and church crosses, and was previously sentenced to a year in prison for "gathering crowds to disturb social order".
