Catholic parishioner among Louisville mass shooting victims

by Kelly Valencia

A church in the US is mourning the loss of Josh Barrick, one of the five people killed at a mass shooting in Louisville, Kentucky on Monday.

The 40-year-old was a parishioner at Holy Trinity, where he coached youth basketball.

“Our hearts are heavy, they are broken, and we are searching for answers,” a post on the church’s Facebook read.

“Please keep the entire Barrick family in your prayers, including his wife, Jessica, and their two sweet children, who are students in our school.”

The father of two was a senior vice president at the city’s Old National Bank where the attack occurred.

The gunman, who was also an employee of the bank, was killed by police officers responding to the incident. He also injured eight other people.

Barrick’s church held a vigil on Monday evening in his memory.

Speaking to Fox19, Fr Shayne Duval from Holy Trinity described Barrick as “a charismatic and charming family man who loved sports”.

“I knew him in just Bermuda shorts and a polo shirt,” Duval said. “We were in a golf scramble over the summer. Just a likable, kind, big guy. He’s a big guy, and just had a bubbling personality, and you could tell he loved his family. He loved his faith. He loved his community. And he just loved life.”

No funeral details have been released yet.
