Catholic MP grilled by Piers Morgan on homosexuality and abortion

Jacob Rees-Mogg, who some say could be a future Prime Minister, appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain on Wednesday.

Very quickly his faith became the focus of the interview as he was tackled by presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on the issues of gay marriage and abortion.

When asked whether he opposed gay marriage he said: "I'm a Catholic and I take the teaching of the Church seriously on the matter of faith and morals."

He was repeatedly pressed on the same question to which he repeatedly responded "I support the teaching of the Catholic Church".

When asked whether gay sex was sinful, he said: "On the issue of sin, it is quite clear on the teaching of the Church that it's not for me to judge."

"If you look at the woman taken in adultery, what does Christ say? 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone' and it is not for me to cast stones."

He was then pressed on his views on abortion.

He said abortion was wrong in all cases even rape.

The interview mirrors that faced by former Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron who was asked the same questions about homosexuality by a number of media outlets.

The intense question led to him resigning from his position.
