Peter Saunders, who was abused during childhood by two priests, says he has lost faith in Pope Francis over his handling of the issue.
Mr Saunders has spoken out after, Marie Collins, the sole remaining abuse survivor on a Vatican commission resigned last month, citing "unacceptable" resistance from the Church.
A devote Catholic, Mr Saunders claims he was forced out of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors for being too outspoken.
Founded by the Pope in 2014, the commission has been charged with trying to better-protect children against paedophiles within the Church.
Mr Saunders told the Mail on Sunday: "The Pope has not done enough for abuse victims - he's made dreadful appointments that are almost a slap in the face for abuse victims and, recently, he said we should show mercy to abusers.
"The church seems to have nothing but contempt for the abused. I have lost my faith in the Pope. In my opinion, the commission needs to be dismantled."
Mr Saunders is the founder of the National Association for People Abused in Children.
Premier has approached the Vatican for a comment.
