Cardinal Vincent Nichols has invoked the name of a football manager as he joins other faith leaders in urging everyone to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
The Archbishop of Westminster says he's echoing the words of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp who he describes as his "favourite football manager".
Klopp has urged his club's supporters to get jabbed and the manager describes the vaccination process as being "a question of solidarity, loyalty and togetherness". The most senior Catholic in England and Wales says he adds his voice to Klopp's.
The Archbishop, who was born in Crosby on Merseyside, has previously confessed to supporting Liverpool FC. The newspaper, the Liverpool Echo, once headlined a story about Nichols "The Reds fan who could be the next Pope".
Less surprisingly than invoking a football manager, the Catholic Cardinal also confirms he's in agreement with the Pope. "I add my voice…to the voice of Pope Francis who says to be vaccinated is 'an act of love'."
Cardinal Nichols is urging people not to delay or hesitate before getting jabbed. His comments carry an implied criticism of anti-vaxxers and vaccine hesitators.
"Please act quickly. (Covid vaccine) is real protection, for yourself and for others."
