C of E launches national abuse survivor survey to inform Church's safeguarding work

by Kelly Valencia

Victims and survivors of abuse are being encouraged to take part in a new survey by the Church of England.

They've launched a national survey asking victims and survivors how they'd like to be involved in developing further safeguarding structures.

Zena Marshall, the Church of England's national director of safeguarding told Premier Christian News what they are hoping to achieve with it.

"This is really looking at different ways that we can engage, because not everybody wants to engage in the same way. So it's really trying to understand what is the best way that we can hear as many voices as possible."

The survey is anonymous and will run for two months - it is open to any victim or survivor who would like to engage with the Church to inform its work.

"This is not a questionnaire about people's past or lived experience, it's about how they want to engage so what time they can offer…what communication they actually want from us as well and how frequently.

"So it's only ten questions, should only take about ten to 15 minutes. So we really encourage people to get involved so we can listen to your views and voices," Marshall continued.

A report with the outcome will be publicly accessible and will include key themes and next steps to develop the safeguarding framework.

The anonymous survey is available on the survivor engagement webpage of Church of England's website.
