Britney Spears says prayer is ‘a constant’ in her life as she opens up about her relationship with God

by Kelly Valencia

Britney Spears has opened up about her relationship with God and the role that prayer has played in helping her deal with family hurt and “serious insecurities”.

In an Instagram post, the pop star shared pictures that read "God's always with us” and “When life gets hard. PRAY” together with a lengthy message about prayer and her experience in the music industry.

Spears had her conservatorship terminated this year, after a 13-year legal battle to end it claiming it was abusive. Her dad, James Spears, had total control over her financial and daily life affairs up until November when an LA judge ruled the conservatorship was “no longer required.”

Writing to her more than 38 million followers, Spears said: “Did you know the closer you are to God, there will always be more tests…everywhere… a relationship with God is never ending…. That’s why prayer is a constant in my life! I have issues... I’m not perfect so I have to remind myself daily to look up and know I’m not alone.”

The 40-year-old also shared that three years ago she stopped believing in God for a while. When a woman asked her why she believed in God if He allows pain and disease in the world, Spears replied: “because I have no choice”.

“Hard test, right??? How shallow did I sound to her saying ‘God is with you’?…The reason I bring this up is because I know the pain of not believing anymore and feeling so alone and even the arrogance of the world can test your faith… Trust me, I know and it’s not fun,” she continued.

Spears also shared the years she spent under the conservatorship have left her “scared” of the music industry.

“People have no idea the awful things that were done to me personally … and what I’ve been through. I am scared of people and the business. They really hurt me.”

But she concluded her post by saying that the last year had been a time of “growth” for her and encouraged people to pray.

“….PRAY….. PRAY…. PRAY. SO…. Again, I’m sorry if I sound ignorant… I’m extremely insecure and I probably care too much that’s all I got … PRAYER!”
