Former Hillsong leader Brian Houston has taken to social media, accusing the megachurch of "losing its soul."

Houston stepped down from his role as global lead pastor following two allegations of sexual misconduct against women.

Now, he is accusing the church of being “cold and callous” towards his wife, Bobbie Houston, following his departure.

The father-of-three shared a text exchange between his wife and a member of the Hillsong Church board, in which they appear inform Bobbie that they will shortly be making her “redundant.”

Brian Houston shared the screenshot on his Instagram. The caption says: “After 39 years of exemplary service and extraordinary faithfulness and fruitfulness, this is the communication Bobbie received from the Hillsong Church board as she is made redundant (effective immediately) through no choice of her own.

“This just three weeks after she hosted her 26th year of Colour Conferences (a total of 118 conferences around the world.)

“She has relentlessly served God and  served people as she stood side-by-side with me for four decades leading Hillsong Church, faithful in the good times and in the tough times alike.

“And we are supposed to act like this is all ok. It’s not!

“Our beautiful church is losing its soul.”

After news broke of Houston’s supposed actions, he shared an emotional statement in which he publically apologised to his wife.

He said: “It crushes me to see your heart breaking as we navigate this season, letting go of so much that is precious to you.”
