The court case of Hillsong Church’s founder and senior pastor, Brian Houston, has been postponed until 2022.

According to Australian news outlet Eternity News, a local court has delayed Houston’s case until 27th January next year when the date of his full trial will be announced.

In August this year, Houston was charged with concealing his father’s abuse of a child during the 1970s.

Frank Houston was found to have abused up to nine boys in the 1970s and 1980s in Australia and New Zealand but died in 2004 without standing trial for the crimes.

However, this charge concerns an Australian man who was abused as boy.

Last month, during a preliminary court hearing, Houston’s lawyers said he will plead not guilty to the allegations.

Police argue that Houston knew about his father’s abuse as early as 1999 and "without reasonable excuse, failed to bring that information to the attention of NSW Police".

In previous interviews, Houston has shared his “shock” at the charges and vowed to "set the record straight".

"I vehemently profess my innocence and will defend these charges," he told AP in August.

Houston is facing charges which carry a maximum prison sentence of five years.
