Boy, 12, charged after eggs and abuse hurled at church goers

The parish priest has described the hurling of eggs and anti-Catholic abuse at people outside a church in his eastern Scotland parish as "dreadfully sad".

Fr Kevin Dow spoke after churchgoers on their way to Mass at St John & St Columba in Rosyth, Fire, on Tuesday evening were targeted by a gang of youths.

He said: "It's dreadfully sad that in today's Scotland we still have young people who seem to be brought up or encouraged from elsewhere to be anti-Catholic and to do so in an open, intimidating and violent way."

Despite one arrest, the Police are continuing their investigation following the apparently sectarian attack, which officers are understood to be treating as a hate crime.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police in Fife received a report of a disturbance outside St John's Church in Rosyth on the evening of Tuesday January 17.

"Officers are following a positive line of inquiry."
