The granddaughter of evangelist Billy Graham, Jerushah Duford, has endorsed Kamala Harris for president, joining the group ‘Evangelicals for Harris’.
Speaking on an Evangelicals for Harris Zoom call, she said: “In 2016, when a man bragged about assaulting women, various leaders of my faith then propped up this man as a poster boy for godly manhood and leadership.
"This broke my heart as I have watched — quite frankly, for the last eight years — people who were curious about Jesus and His teachings [have] done a 180 and walked in the other direction from my faith."
Duford’s mother is Virginia ‘Gigi’ Graham Tchividjian, the oldest daughter of the famous evangelical. The Tchividjian branch of the family have been the most outspoken against Trump, and their uncle Franklin Graham, a Trump endorser.
By contrast to his niece, Franklin Graham has spoken against Evangelicals for Harris, criticising them for using footage of his father in their advertising.
A recent Evangelicals for Harris ad featured the late Billy Graham challenging on audience on whether they have prayed: “Lord, I have sinned. I'm sorry for my sin. I'm willing to change my way of life."
It then cut to footage of Trump in 2015, who, when asked if he had ever sought God’s forgiveness, said: “I am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don't think so. I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don't bring God into that picture. I don't."
Franklin Graham posted on X: “The liberals are using anything and everything they can to promote candidate Harris. They even developed a political ad trying to use my father’s image. They are trying to mislead people.
“Maybe they don’t know that my father appreciated the conservative values and policies of President @realDonaldTrump in 2016, and if he were alive today, my father’s views and opinions would not have changed.”
