A BBC antiques presenter has said his daughter’s recovery from severe depression led him to become a Christian after months of investigating the evidence for God.
Speaking to The Christian Post, David Harper said he “just fell to my knees” after concluding that “it was Jesus Christ who had literally saved my daughter’s life”.
Harper, who had described himself as agnostic and was raised in a non-religious household where “God never played a part,” began exploring Christianity after his daughter Hetti experienced what he called a dramatic transformation.
She had struggled for years with depression and self-harm and was effectively told, “There’s nothing we can do for you,” before being advised to look for something spiritual.
After she began attending church and embraced the Christian faith, Harper said he observed significant changes over 15 months.
“I heard her laugh and giggle, and I remember thinking, ‘I didn't think I'd ever hear that again in my life,’” he told The Christian Post.
During the 2024 Christmas season, he began an 11-month research project examining arguments for God’s existence and the historical claims surrounding the resurrection of Jesus.
“If the resurrection was true, then everything is true… if the resurrection is true, then Jesus is God,” he said.
His new book, The God Conundrum, has documented his faith journey.
