WATCH: Babies survive US tornado after being put in bath with a Bible

by Donna Birrell

Two babies have survived the recent tornado in Kentucky after being put in a bath with a Bible.

The boys’ grandmother had put them in the bathtub as the house began to shake with the force of the storm earlier this month.

Clara Lutz says she left Kaden who is 15 months old and 3 month old Dallas with a blanket, a pillow and a Bible to protect them at the house in Hopkins County as the tornado began to rage.

She told a local TV station: "Next thing I knew, the tub had lifted and it was out of my hands, I couldn't hold on...

“All I could say was, 'Lord please bring my babies back safely. Please, I beg thee.’"

Ms Lutz was hit in the head by the water tank from the bath as it was ripped from the floor and forced into the air. The house ended up stripped to its foundations.

She says she desperately searched for her grandchildren with the help of the local sheriff’s officials.

The bathtub was discovered upturned in the garden with the babies underneath and completely dry from the rain.

Although Dallas had suffered a bump to his head, the boys were relatively unscathed by the ordeal.

President Biden described the tornadoes, which killed at least 75 people in Kentucky and 14 elsewhere in the United States, as one of the largest tornado outbreaks in the country’s history.

The video shows the moment when Hopkins County Sheriff's Office discovered the bathtub and rescued the babies.
