Author hopes new children's book about Jesus reaches countries hostile to the Gospel

by Aaron James

Ruth Dickson's new title, 'Have You Not Heard About Jesus?', has been printed in several different languages including Mandarin.

China, where Mandarin is spoken, only allows Christianity within state-sanctioned churches, meaning millions of believers there are forced to worship in house or underground churches.

The book follows a girl who talks to her friends from around the world about Jesus. Each time she does so, the friend comes along with her, and the group gets bigger and bigger.

'Have You Not Heard About Jesus?' is aimed at children aged 3-7, and is the latest of several titles by Ruth Dickson.

She told Premier: "It started off with me teaching children in Rwanda. These were poor children, orphans, they couldn't afford books. So I felt the Holy Spirit say: 'You make your own books'.

"But there was a barrier... the children did not speak English, and they could not read in English.

"There are people on the ground [in countries which persecute Christians] working. I would love for these books to get to their hands to pass to the children.

"I don't know if there are any [Christian] children's books in Mandarin, but the Lord has put this strongly in my heart to work in indigneous languages so that the Gospel can get to the grassroots.

"We take it for granted that people have heard about Jesus. There are many people who have not heard about Jesus.

"A lot of times children are forgotten, they concentrate on the adults, but the children also need to hear about Jesus, and that's where I come in."
