A priest and outspoken anti-vaxxer died on Monday after a month long struggle with coronavirus in hospital.
Greek orthodox priest, Metropolitan Kosmas of Aetolia and Acarnania was admitted to a hospital in Agrinio, Greece on 1st December after testing positive for Covid 19. He was later transferred to an ICU at the capital's Evangelismos Hospital.
The 76-year-old had refused to be vaccinated against the virus.
Kosmas disagreed with government coronavirus guidance to prevent the spread of the virus, according to news outlet the Greek Reporter and was an outspoken critic of mask wearing and vaccines.
Kosmas is reported to have labelled church goers unwilling to attend services in the height of the pandemic as "unfaithful" in a sermon.
"God does not allow you to be infected. God does not infect!
"It is a holy place, the temple is heavenly," he is reported to have said.
In 2020, the Holy Synod summoned Kosmas to explain his "disobedience and disrespect of the unanimous decision of the collective body of the Church of Greece" regarding the coronavirus health measures.
The minister's 75-year-old sister also died of Covid-related complications in early December 2021. She was also unvaccinated.
