'All things work together for our good': missionary kidnapped in Haiti praises God for his freedom

by Kelly Valencia

A Chilean missionary, who has kidnapped earlier this month by a gang in Haiti, has praised God after being released following days of negotiations.

Esteban Zambrano took to social media to share his gratitude to God and everyone who prayed for him and his family.

He said: "I wanted to thank you for your concern, for all the prayers. Little by little I have been realising all the support given to my family during the time that I was kidnapped.

"We wanted to share our gratitude, first of all to God because we have seen His care for us, His care for me during the time I was abducted, so first of all we thank Him," Zambrano said.
The 32- year-old went on to share how we was abducted in Port-au-Prince on 8th June.

While he was on his way to a school where teaches Spanish and Bible lessons to children and teenagers, two men violently intercepted the car, and released his daughter who was with him at the time.

"They then took me quickly to the place where I spent my 13 days of captivity. I was there with other people, locked in the control zone of this gang," Zambrano continued.

Zambrano, who has been living in Haiti since 2011 with his wife and two daughters, also shared how the God comforted him during his captivity.

He said it was God's "word, attention and care" which lifted him up and encouraged him.

"One day while I was looking at a mountain God put Psalm 121 in my heart, it was a beautiful word that encouraged me a lot and allowed me to stand, allowed me to focus and God kept his word," Zambrano said.

He continued: "It also reminded me of the conviction to share with others - because he is no respecter of persons - to share his love with others, so although it was a difficult time for us, for those who love God, his word teaches us that all things work together for good, so we have seen the love of God, the power of God, the care of God over us, thanks be to him."

Although the missionary has not confirmed whether a ransom was paid, it was previously reported the gang had asked for $100,000 in exchange for his freedom.
