70 missing people found beheaded inside a church in DR Congo

by Lydia Davies

At least 70 bodies were discovered tied up and beheaded inside a Protestant church in Kasanga, DR Congo, after an attack by ADF rebels, a group affiliated with ISIS.

According to The Mirror, the victims were reportedly held hostage for several days before being brutally killed using machetes.

"70 bodies were discovered in the church. They were tied up near the locality of Mayba," said Vianney Vitswamba, coordinator of the local community protection committee.

The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) is considered one of the deadliest armed groups in the region, often overshadowed by the M23 rebels, who have gained international attention.

The massacre is part of the escalating conflict in eastern Congo, where violence has displaced hundreds of thousands.

Meanwhile, the M23 rebels—allegedly backed by Rwanda—have seized strategic locations, including parts of Bukavu, Congo’s second-largest city.

As clashes with government forces intensify, the UN warns that over 350,000 people have been left without shelter.

The situation continues to deteriorate, with no clear resolution in sight.
