WATCH: Megachurch pastor Mike Todd gives raw reaction to Kanye's Jesus is King album

by Tola Mbakwe

In a video posted on Instagram, Todd listened to the song "Closed on Sunday" on the album for the first time.

The song pays homage to US Christian-owned chicken restaurant Chick-fil-A, which is closed on Sundays.

Part of the lyrics are:

Closed on Sunday, you're my Chick-fil-A

Closed on Sunday, you my Chick-fil-A

Hold the selfies, put the 'Gram away

Get your family, y'all hold hands and pray

When you got daughters, always keep 'em safe

Watch out for vipers, don't let them indoctrinate

Closed on Sunday, you my Chick-fil-A

You're my number one, with the lemonade

Raise our sons, train them in the faith

Them temptations, make sure they're wide awake

Follow Jesus, listen and obey

No more living for the culture, we nobody slave

Todd, who has a background in music producing, expressed excitement over the song, enthusiastically shouting "yeah!" and "come on!"

After listening to the song Todd celebrated West and urged Christians who are sceptical about the rapper's Christian faith to reconsider their thoughts.

"This is progression, not perfection," he said.

"Any Christian who thinks any differently, you can go sit down somewhere," he joked.

"This man just spit more theology than most pastors do on a Sunday and he's doing it do a wide audience.

"You're talking about standing up for your family, standing up for your home, actually being a man of God, teach your kids the faith.

"That's was everyone out here is trying to do, just progress, trying to get better and doing it in Jesus' name.

"The energy I just felt in the song with no bass... got me hype! Jesus is King, tell everybody!"

Todd then made a personal statement to West saying that he is praying for him and that Transformation Church supports him.

The album, West's ninth, is heavily inspired by his Christian faith and has influences of gospel music.

The collection includes collaborations with gospel singer Fred Hammond.

Fans of the rapper appeared to be divided over his new effort, with the theme and musical style both talking points on social media.

One fan wrote on Twitter: "Dawg. The production on this new Kanye album is AMAZING but man he didn't really deliver imo. There's like 2 really good songs.

"That Follow God track was like a blast from the past but it's only 1:47. I also liked Clipse on Use This Gospel. It's kinda ehh other than that."

Another fan tweeted: "Every Christian and Kanye West fan should listen to this album it's so good. Such a great gospel album, he says some great things in it."

Taking a different view, one tweeted: "Sorry but this new Kanye West album is extremely disappointing. No standout songs, nothing memorable and production is meh.

"I get it's a gospel album and approach was different but those viral church videos had me hyped for nothing."

West's wife Kim Kardashian-West was among those helping to spread the more positive take on his album, sharing a tweet from musician Harry Hudson, who said: "It's genius! Currently crying to every song. chillllls !!"

The highly-anticipated album from the rapper was released on Friday, although it was originally set for September 27.
