Vicar leads tributes to couple murdered in Tunisia massacre

by Desmond Busteed

Family, friends and former colleagues of Raymond, 75, and Angela Fisher, 69, said an emotional farewell to the couple - more than a month after they were killed when a gunman opened fire at the resort of Port El Kantaoui, near Sousse.

The Fishers were the last of the 30 British victims to be named by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and a funeral was held at The Parish Church of St Anne, Leicester - the same church where they were married in September 1965.

Son Adam Fisher said: "It's a source of comfort to us they at least got a last few days on holiday before they went.

"It makes me sad beyond words that my mum and dad will never see me get married, they will never see me have children if I have any, but I definitely draw comfort from the fact that I am part of them.

"I can't begin to tell you how much I value the support she (his mother) gave me when I went through tough times, and I really will miss that."

Daughter Donna Bradley said: "Dad in particular loved to travel and enjoyed meeting new people and sharing the odd drink with them. It's ironic or, perhaps you could argue apt, that my parents died while on holiday.

"Whatever dad's hobby was, he had to give 110%, he never did things by halves."

The service, led by Reverend Stephen Burnham, included the same hymns from the wedding day.

He referred to the "awful circumstances of the ending of their lives".

He said: "This September would have been the celebration of their golden wedding anniversary, their different natures were so complimentary to each other.

"They were well-loved, not only by family but also close friends. It was ironic they were in good health, this allowed them to enjoy life as much as possible and so there's an irony and tragedy of dying on a holiday when holidays were such a big part of their lives and love of their life together."
