US megachurch Transformation Church gives away $3.2 million in one service

by Tola Mbakwe

A megachurch in Tulsa, Oklahoma donated $3.2 million, an equivalent of almost £2.4 million, to worthy causes during its Sunday service.

Transformation Church gave more than $1.55 million was given to churches, $1 million to a wide variety of organisations, six brand new cars to those who needed them and $200,000 to those who needed to pay off personal debts.

Senior Pastor Michael Todd told the church's online audience that each recipient he was going to announce had no idea they were going to be given a gift.

One of the recipients was A21, an international Christian organisation that fights against sex trafficking.

Another was Forward City Church in Columbia, South Carolina led by Pastor Travis Greene.

The church just acquired a new building and needs to begin renovations.

Pastor Todd said to Pastor Greene: "You don't know anything about this. But what you did is that you text me in faith, and you told me 'I'm going to come [to the church service] on the 13th. What you don't know is I already had your name written down. On behalf of Transformation Church, really on behalf of God, we want to present you with a $100,000 cheque. "

Pastor Greene took to Instagram to share his shock, excitement and gratefulness: "My mind can't even wrap around how Awesome & Faithful our God is!! I told @iammiketodd that I will Never forget this Moment!! The Impartation that he & @mrs.natalietodd made into us has literally Changed me Forever!! I will never see Church the same. God used him to remind me that absolutely Anything is Possible! Now it's time to GO & Do the Same!!
"Hey @richwilkersonjr we're sending you $10,000 for your new building in Miami!!

Toward the end of the service, Pastor Todd shared the story of a young man in the church named Evan who has been helping homeless people for years.

He said he longed for homeless people to be able to have a place to take showers. The church donated a shower truck to Evan's charity.

Evan said tearfully in response to the donation: "There are so many barriers, to get a job, to get housing, and there's no safe pace to take a shower…

"This will change many people's lives; this is beyond just a clean shower."

Pastor Todd said: All we're doing today is the church vision, representing God to the lost and found, for one reason, transformation in Christ."

He encouraged people to "go and do the same".

All the donations were taken from the church's missions fund. Last year it gave away $1.2 million.
