A growing number of Americans believe religion is playing a larger role in public life, according to new data from the Pew Research Center.

The study, which tracked opinions between February 2024 and February 2025, found that 31 per cent of US adults now say religion is gaining influence in American society. That's up from 18 per cent the previous year. It’s the highest figure recorded by Pew in 15 years.

While this remains a minority view, the perception of religion’s growing influence has increased across political, generational, and demographic lines, including among both Democrats and Republicans.

The research also found that more Americans now view religion positively, suggesting a shift in how faith is perceived within public and cultural life.
