Two catechists killed in Burkina Faso

by Donna Birrell

Two Catholic teachers have been murdered in Burkina Faso.

They were attacked by gunmen as they travelled home on motorcycles with two other catechists near the commune of Bondokuy in the Diocese of Dédougou.

The other two managed to escape and fled into a nearby forest.

The incident, on 25 January is believed to be the fourth murder at the same location.

Most of Burkina Faso is affected by escalating violence, according to reports from the International Rescue Committee.

The conflict has caused one of the fastest-growing displacement crises in the world, with more than two million people – 10 per cent of the population – forced out of their homes.
