Donald Trump has said he believes God spared his life during a recent assassination attempt so he could continue his mission to “Make America Great Again” and ultimately “get to Heaven.”
The former U.S. president made the comments in a fundraising email sent Monday by his political action committee, Never Surrender, Inc. The email, titled “I want to try and get to Heaven”, repeated that line in bold at the top of the message.
“I believe that God saved me for one reason: TO MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote.
The email referenced the shooting at a Pennsylvania rally in July, which left Trump with a minor ear injury. “By the grace of Almighty God, I did survive,” he said.
Trump, who identifies as a non-denominational Christian, has increasingly used religious language in his public messaging.
In 2024, he told Fox News: “If I’m good, I’m going to Heaven and if I’m bad, I’m going someplace else.”
He repeated the sentiment earlier this month when discussing a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine:
“If I can save 7,000 people a week from being killed, I think that’s pretty— I want to try to get to heaven if possible. I’m hearing that I’m not doing well. I am really at the bottom of the totem pole. But if I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons.”
The fundraising email concluded with a direct call for donations as part of a “24-HOUR TRUMP FUNDRAISING BLITZ,” urging supporters to give $15 to “keep the wins rolling in.”
