Many tributes have poured in for radio executive and consultant to Premier, Paul Chantler.
According to Radio Today, Chantler passed away on Sunday at the age of 64.
He had recently been diagnosed with liver and prostate cancer and had been in hospital last week.
Premier CEO Peter Kerridge described him as “such a wonderful friend.”
He said in a statement: “Paul had a Jewish heritage but as a teenager attended his local Baptist church. Hence his deep interest in everything Premier has been involved in. I truly believe that Paul had a Christian faith that sustained him not just in recent months but for the many years I've known him.
“And as very sad that it is there is a poignancy to his passing today.
“Easter Sunday is the day of Resurrection. It is the day of Eternal life. It is the day where all the promises of scripture become true as death is defeated, evil is vanquished and for those willing to contemplate life's meaning, purpose and ultimate end it all begins to make sense.
“Paul had already begun this journey, now he is more alive than ever. Such is the hope of everlasting life.
“And of course it means that there is no final goodbye but a brief interlude before we meet again.
“May you know something of this peace and promise as we go through this time of loss.
“I give thanks for every memory of him. Such a wonderful friend.”
Several of his industry colleagues have taken to social media to express their sadness and pay their respects.
Chantler’s radio career spans 30 decades. In the 1990s, he was group programme director for three of the UK's biggest radio groups.
He was also in charge of launching Galaxy and Vibe radio stations, as well as helping to launch Ireland's speech station NewsTalk in 2002. The entrepreneur also previously ran UK national station TalkSport as programme director.
Chantler also shared his expertise in the industry in a book he co-authored entitled Essential Media Law.
