Tributes paid to car crash victim priest

Revd Dr John Hughes, who was Dean of Chapel at Jesus College, Cambridge died after the vehicle he was travelling in an the A10 in the city collided with another.

He's been described as a leading theologian within the Church.

The Master of his college has expressed his shock.

Prof Ian White said: "The loss of John Hughes is acutely felt as the life of the College was greatly enriched by him. 

"A former undergraduate of the College, he was both an outstanding academic who inspired the students he taught, and a faithful priest and pastor who touched profoundly all those with whom he came into contact. 

"He will be deeply missed.

"The tragic event comes as the Church of England prepares to publish a book which he's co-authored.Revd Dr Malcolm Brown is the Church of England's director of mission and public affairs and also wrote the book.

Speaking to Premier's Marcus Jones he paid tribute.

Revd Dr Andrew Davison was a friend and colleague of Revd Hughes. He tells Premier he'll be sorely missed.

Cambridgeshire Police are encouraging any witnesses to come forward.A spokesman said it's looking for people who saw the collision or either vehicle involved just prior to contact them.
