Former US President Donald Trump has made the bold claim that Jesus Christ is the only person capable of leading the US House of Representatives.
His remarks come amidst ongoing struggles within the Republican Party to identify a suitable candidate for the role. The incumbent holds both political and parliamentary leadership of the House and is second in line to assume presidency.
Despite internal disputes within the Republican Party, no candidate has been put forward yet. Any potential nominee would then need to be approved through a vote in the house.
Commenting on this situation, Mr Trump said, "It’s a challenging role, no matter who takes it on. There’s only one person that can do it all the way. Do you know who that is? Jesus Christ."
“If Jesus came down and said, ‘I want to be Speaker,’ he would succeed. Other than that, I haven’t seen anybody that can guarantee success."
Further discussions to identify a suitable candidate are scheduled for Tuesday evening.
