Church of England praying for Iran as violence increases

by Alex Collett

In the latest of violence within Iran, it’s been reported this morning that four people have died and at least 61 others are injured, after a huge fire broke out at a notorious prison in Iran.

It's reported gunshots were fired as the blaze took hold at the Evin jail in Tehran - where now freed Iranian-British mother, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was detained on spying charges.

The disturbance follows weeks of anti-government demonstrations, sparked after the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody, who was detained accused of breaking laws on women's clothing.

The Church of England, have expressed they are praying for Iran and posted a prayer to Twitter.

On Twitter they posted:

“Lord Jesus Christ.

“We hold before you the people of Iran,

“May the tears shed in your earthly life,

“Be balm for all those who weep,

“And may your prayers of your pilgrimage

“Give strength to all who suffer

“For your mercy’s sake

“Amen.”

The US President's calling on Iran to end the violence against its own people, after several weeks of anti-government demonstrations.

Meanwhile Iran's Supreme Leader says no one should dare think they can uproot the Islamic Republic, in his toughest warning yet to protesters.
