Texas church attack killer found not guilty due to insanity

by Eno Adeogun

Marco Moreno, 29, was accused of attacking four people during a service held at a home by the Kingdom Acts Ministries in February.

Among them was 61-year-old Frank Castillo, who died after being stabbed in the chest and abdomen.

Moreno was charged with murder and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Mental health professionals had previously found that Moreno was insane at the time of the attacks, which was not contested by the prosecution or defence during the trial.

State District Judge Sandra Watts said Moreno will next undergo a series of evaluations and will not be released in the meantime.

She added that a hearing will be held later in the 117th District Court, and Moreno will likely be sent to a maximum-security institution.
