Sydney cafe owners vow to keep rosary after discrimination claim

by Hannah Tooley

A customer at Sydney's Barista Haus Gladesville said they were offended by Catholic rosary and accused the owners of discrimination.

The owner Ramis Amanoel told the customer, who was a regular, to take his business elsewhere.

It is not clear whether the man is religious.

Ramis Amanoel, who runs Barista Haus Gladesville in Sydney's north-west, said a male customer claimed it was religious discrimination.

He told Daily Mail Australia: "He started losing his mind about the rosary.

"He was saying he was highly offended and shouldn't be subjected to this."

"He is a regular customer who has been coming in for ages.

"I have no idea why he did it. The anger he had towards it was unbelievable.

"It wasn't a one-off random bloke. He comes to the shop every day, he is a normal person."

Co-owner Mark Moawad told the customer they would not take down the rosary: "We said 'If you don't like it, you can leave'.

"So he took his money back and went," said Mr Amanoel.
