Popular American singer Lauren Daigle is set to perform her hit single "You Say" on the final of American Idol this Sunday. The multi-award-winning Christian artist will take the stage at a special socially-distant version of the grand finale this Sunday.
"I am so excited to be performing on the @americanidol finale, it’s going to be awesome,” Daigle said in a video posted to Instagram. The Louisiana native will be in good company during the "at home" season-ender, with judge Lionel Richie slated to perform the well-known classic, "We Are The World."; it will be the first time the track has been performed on TV in 35 years.
Daigle made an appearance on the show last season as a celebrity guest mentor, during which she talked about auditioning for the competition back when she was just a teenager.
"When I was 17, I tried out for 'American Idol.' I look back on that 10 years ago and I think, man, the journey has been so incredible," the pop star explained. "Like it really has. This show gave me something to believe in, it really did."
Last month, Lauren recorded a special version of her hit gospel track "Still Rolling Stones," which contains the easter-themed Christian lyrics:
"Six feet under
I thought it was over
An answer to prayer
The voice of a Savior
Rise up (rise up) Rise up (rise up)"
Her song "You Say" has enjoyed huge success both in the secular and faith-based category. As of 16th May, the track will have spent a record-breaking 86 weeks atop Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart, beating out Hillsong's "Oceans," which ranked at number one for 61 consecutive weeks.
