Martin Scorsese's film, Silence, tells the story of two 17th Century missionaries who travel to Japan to find their missing mentor.
The film is based on the 1966 novel by Japanese author Shusaku Endo.
It follows the stories of the missionaries at a time where Christianity is banned in Japan and those who practice the faith face torture and death.
The ban on Christianity was lifted in 1873 after 250 years.
Speaking in Deadline magazine in 2015, Scorsese said the film has been an "obsession" of his.
Scorsese is thought to have hired Rev James Martin to prepare the actors for their roles in the film, according to The Guardian.
The film premiere will take place on Tuesday and Pope Francis is not expected to attend, however the Academy Award and BAFTA winning director may meet the pontiff separately.
