A campaign to get more black people voting in the UK's general election in May has been launched by international civil rights icon Revd Al Sharpton.
Organisers are hoping Operation Black Vote will inspire Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities to engage in the election. The also want all the mainstream political parties promise to tackle race inequality by putting a pledge in their manifestos.
According to OBV, there are 168 marginal seats where the Black vote is bigger than the majority held by the sitting MP.
Speaking before the event, Rev Al Sharpton said: "The empowerment of minorities not only helps our communities to have a stronger voice and demand changes to create more equality in employment, education and the criminal justice system, it also helps the whole of society.
"Greater equality brings people together, makes a nation stronger and more dynamic. I'm happy to be in the UK for this exciting campaign"
