A notorious priest known for his leadership in an evangelical movement, has appeared in court to confront accusations of sexual offenses against former members of his congregation.
Rev Christopher Brain, 66, of Wilmslow, figure headed the Nine O'Clock Service (NOS) movement in Sheffield from 1986 to 1995.
He has been accused of sexual crimes by eleven women, including one charge of rape and 33 counts of indecent assault between the years of 1981 and 1995.
He appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Monday and is slated for further proceedings at Sheffield Crown Court on 15th April.
The gravity of the rape charge was emphasised during the brief hearing, indicating it will be addressed at the city's crown court.
The NOS, renowned for its "rave church" style gatherings was initially held at St Thomas's Church in Crookes. It then moved to Ponds Forge sport complex in the city centre.
