Quakers launch election debates

The first of three events looking at issues that affect Quaker values gets underway on Tuesday evening at Friends House in London.

Tonight's meeting will focus on 'Our view of the world' and will see a number of candidates including Christians Jeremy Lefroy and Gavin Shuker debate conflict, immigration, Europe, development and aid.

Later events will look at the economy, community and public services.

Speaking about the hustings, Quakers Parliamentary Engagement Officer, Jessica Metheringham told Premier: "This is a real opportunity to help shape the debate and to see what we can do to set the pattern for the next government.

"Faith compels us to challenge the status quo to try to make the world a better place for everyone."
