The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said that it will "carefully consider" the file of evidence passed on by South Yorkshire Police to see if there is a realistic prospect of conviction.
In November last year Sir Cliff Richard was interviewed by police after voluntarily meeting officers.
The 75-year-old entertainer, who denies any wrongdoing, had his home in Berkshire home raided and has spoken to police twice as part of their investigation.
A CPS spokesperson said: "We have received a full file of evidence from South Yorkshire Police.
"We will now carefully consider its contents in line with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, in order to establish whether there is sufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction, and whether it is in the public interest to do so."
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: "Investigation files relating to allegations of non-recent sexual abuse involving a 75-year-old man have been handed over to the CPS.
"The CPS will now consider the matter and South Yorkshire Police awaits their decision."
An allegation have previously been made that Sir Cliff sexually abused a boy at a Billy Graham rally in 1985.
The singer denies the claims, and no charges have been brought against him.
The Christian entertainer converted to faith in 1964 and has created chart-topping singles across five separate decades.
