Pope to visit Africa

by Hannah Tooley

The Argentinian pontiff has repeated that he intends to travel to Africa this year: "If God permits it I will be in Africa in November, in the Central African Republic and in Uganda."

The proposed dates are 27th to 29th November 2015.

The announcement of the visit to the Central African Republic comes as authorities in the country announce there will be presidential and legislative elections in October and November -- finishing the week before the pontiff arrives.

Pope Francis will be in Uganda to mark the 50th anniversary of Pope Paul VI's canonisation.

The Central African Republic is emerging from brutal inter-religious violence which left thousands dead.

After visits to Sri Lanka and the Philippines this year the Pope is also expected to visit Cuba and the United States in autumn.
