Pope cancels audiences because of flu

Pope Francis is said to be suffering from mild influenza.

The Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni said in a statement that the Pontiff has cancelled his audiences for today, Saturday, because of a slight fever.

Italy is seeing a spike in seasonal illnesses such as the influenza virus, along with a drop in temperatures over recent days.

In the last few months, the Pope has suffered health problems including abdominal surgery to repair a hernia as well as mobility issues.

Francis who is 87, is due to travel to Dubai on Friday for the COP28 conference on climate change.
