Issues have arrived after Nicaragua has refused to allow Cubans on route to America to pass through it.
It is estimated that around 5,000 Cubans are stuck on the border with Costa Rica, according to The Times.
Speaking outside the Vatican's St Peter's Square, he said: "I invite the countries of the region to renew with generosity all necessary efforts in order to find a rapid solution to this humanitarian drama."
