Poll finds divorcees argue more over possessions than children

by Hannah Tooley

A poll of 2,000 married men and women splitting up by Censuswide found material goods are the biggest source of arguments between couples splitting up, with money and children coming after.

It is estimated there are around 130,000 divorces every year in the UK.

Chris Muwanguzi from the Christian group Family Matters Institute, told Premier: "I think a lot of it is associated with the loss and the separation, and the difficultly with losing people you care about and love.

"So people are in denial and so they want to hold onto things they had and shared with their ex-partners, and they're very angry, so they're either damaging them of throwing them out.

Mr Muwanguzi a;sp stressed that families should be a priority over possessions: "Do not lie to the children, do not pretend, do not stay together for the sake of the children - that tends to make things more difficult, so remember to have as a priority, right at the top, let's talk to the children, lets work out what we do with the children."
