Photos show Ukrainian soldiers marking Epiphany with ice cold plunge almost a year after invasion began

by Sophie Drew

Orthodox Christians have been celebrating the Epiphany by taking an ice cold dip. For those in Ukraine, the celebratory act is a welcome distraction almost a year after the Russian invasion began.

The tradition is a celebratory act that commemorates the baptism of Christ.

Despite temperatures reaching around -6 degrees Celsius in Kyiv, soldiers and civilians turned out in force.

The Orthodox church marked epiphany on Thursday, 19th of January.
