A Chicago pastor was struck in the head by a pepper ball fired by a federal agent during a protest outside an ICE processing centre in Broadview, Illinois.

Video footage shows the agent firing into a crowd of demonstrators, hitting Pastor David Black from the First Presbyterian Church in Woodlawn.

“I invited them to repentance,” Pastor Black told Religion News Service (RNS). “I basically offered an altar call… and invited them to come and receive that salvation.”

The American Civil Liberties Union has condemned the agents’ actions, saying: “These federal forces are not trained to conduct local policing, and their tactics involve the indiscriminate use of force.”

Black and others are now seeking an emergency court order, alleging “illegal and brutal suppression” of free speech.
