A pastor has drawn attention online after being filmed calling for Valentine’s Day to be cancelled.
In a video circulating on social media, a preacher identified as 'Pastor John' is seen speaking on a street, arguing that Christians should not celebrate the holiday.
One of his main criticisms was what he described as inconsistency among churches that refuse to celebrate Christmas because of concerns about its historical date, but do not object to Valentine’s Day.
“I saw one church that has already put up a banner for Valentine’s, but during Christmas, they never do such”, the pastor said in the clip.
According to the news outlet Tuko, a passerby challenged his remarks, saying that “nobody cancels Christmas”, and suggesting that it was up to individual churches whether they chose to celebrate it.
Another passerby responded jokingly: “if your name is Valentine, cancel it”.
The video prompted a range of reactions online, from humour to theological disagreement.
